Brand and Marketing Fellow

MARCOM OFFICE OVERVIEW

Marketing and Communications (MARCOM) is the central hub for Stony Brook University’s brand, marketing and communications strategy. The office is composed of eight units – known as the MARCOM eco-system – where award-winning communications and marketing professionals work together to advance the reputation and public profile of Stony Brook University. The units include Brand Management Services, Business and Operations Services, Creative Strategy and Design Services, Digital and Social Media Services, Editorial Services, External Communications Services, Reputation and Perception Management Services, and Presidential Communications Services. The following student intern position is part of the MARCOM Fellows Program for the 2025-2026 academic year.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Position Title: Brand and Marketing Fellow

MARCOM Unit: Brand Management Services 

Position Type: Paid Internship 

Location: On-campus, may include evening and weekend hours

Pay: $16.50–$20.00/hour 

Time Commitment: 10-15 hours per week

Position Description: Brand and Marketing Fellow

The Brand and Marketing Fellow is a key member of the Brand Management Services unit within the award-winning Stony Brook University Office of Marketing and Communications (MARCOM). This position is part of the competitive MARCOM Fellows Program, a paid, cohort-based internship that offers undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to gain real-world experience by learning from and assisting communications and marketing professionals. Fellows support our work promoting the SBU brand, strengthening the university’s reputation, and executing high-impact campaigns that engage students, faculty, alumni and community stakeholders. Students are also guided by SBU Career Center coaches who provide training in time management, professional communication in the workplace, and balancing work and academics.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Assist in executing on-campus brand campaigns, pop-ups and marketing activations
  • Act as a brand ambassador at student and community events
  • Assist with writing and content creation (newsletters, flyers and social posts)
  • Analyze marketing data on campaign performance
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS

  • Cumulative GPA: 3.0 or higher
  • Freshman, Sophomore, Juniors, Seniors and Graduate Students may apply
  • Open to all majors and requires a strong interest in communications, marketing, journalism, videography, technology, or business analytics
  • Availability to fulfill internship hours during business hours and possible night or weekend events
  • Strong command of standard written English
  • Brings a positive, approachable attitude with stellar organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Comfortable working independently and in a team
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all aspects of job responsibility

  • Gain experience in the field of marketing and communications for higher education
  • Develop effective and professional written, oral and customer service skills
  • Hone writing skills for various media forms and for diverse audiences
  • Develop communications skills and learn to work as part of a team to create content

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Academic Credit: This is a paid academic year-long position (Fall, Spring and optional Summer) at up to 15 hours per week. Students may also receive up to 6 credits (3 per semester) to fulfill EXP+ through the Career Center. 

Academic Level: The internship is open to freshman, sophomore, juniors, seniors and graduate students. This posting is open to Stony Brook University students.
