The City of Vacaville is now accepting applications for the position of COMMUNITY SERVICE OFFICER I in the Police Department. Currently, one (1) vacancy exists within the department. This recruitment will also be used to establish an eligibility list to fill future full-time, part-time or limited-term vacancies in this classification that may arise over the next 12 months.

Salary Range:
Community Service Officer I - $60,257 - $73,243/year

A City of Vacaville Community Service Officer plays a vital, hands-on role in supporting law enforcement and public safety. Whether taking reports, assisting at crime scenes, coordinating traffic control or interacting with the public, they serve as the face of community-focused service. This entry-level, non-sworn position is perfect for those passionate about helping others, gaining experience in public safety, and making a meaningful impact every day.
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assisting sworn police officers by identifying and securing crime scenes and conducting interviews
- Conducting criminal and non-criminal investigations, writing investigative reports and documenting incidents and activities
- Collecting, processing, recording and presenting evidence
- Directing traffic and responding to vehicle collisions, abatements and roadway hazards
- Promoting positive community relations through outreach and public education programs
Community Service Officer I is the entry-level class in the Community Service Officer series.

ABOUT YOU
Desirable knowledge, skills and abilities the ideal candidate will possess include, but are not limited to:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with the public, victims, witnesses, and other agencies in a professional and empathetic manner
- Ability to observe, analyze, and accurately document incidents through detailed written reports and official records
- Capacity to quickly learn and consistently apply City and departmental policies and procedures in the performance of daily duties
- Understanding of and commitment to complying with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, particularly those related to law enforcement and public safety operations
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a dynamic and occasionally high-pressure environment while maintaining sound judgment and composure
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive information, records, and interactions
- Commitment to public service and community engagement, with a demonstrated ability to foster positive relationships through outreach and education
Qualifications:
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
Experience: Two (2) years of increasingly responsible general office clerical work and substantial public contact. Prior law enforcement and/or military experience is desirable.
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment.
Community Service Officers are expected to work irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays.
