Video Technical Director

Mobile Pro, a premier Fargo-based production company, seeks a full-time Technical Director (Video) in our Production Department. 

The Technical Director (Video) combines expert live video skills with onsite leadership. This role works closely with the Video Lead to plan and execute all aspects of video production—translating creative ideas into technical reality. This individual ensures solid delivery from pre-production to post-show. A true collaborator, the TD works with crews onsite, solves complex challenges under pressure, and delivers exceptional experiences to clients and audiences alike.

Responsibilities & Duties

  1. Advance & Plan Live Events
  • Collaborate with Video Lead, producers and creatives to translate event concepts into technical execution.
  • Create gear lists, CAD layouts, and video schematics.
  • Coordinate with vendors and warehouse on gear logistics.
  1. Lead On-Site Video Execution
  • Build and operate video systems.  May include:  switching, projection, LED walls, livestreaming, IMAG, and cameras.
  • Rig and cable all video gear; assist in leading tech set-up and strike.
  • Troubleshoot and adapt during rehearsals and live shows.
  1. Leadership & Training
  • Lead and mentor on-site AV crews, modeling professionalism and efficiency.
  • Participate in training programs for new hires and seasonal crew.
  1. Support Company Operations
  • Communicate with Engineering/Warehouse regarding equipment repair or needs.
  • Assist with warehouse pulls, truck loading, and returns when scheduled.
  • Other Duties as Assigned

Desired Skills

  • 2+ years directing live-event video (preferred)
  • Strong technical knowledge of video and audio systems and the ability to troubleshoot.
  • Solid working knowledge of video components, cameras and shot-selection, video production, switching, and live events. Willing to learn about technology “new to you” and apply to live event execution.
  • Reliable under pressure with a proactive, solution-focused mindset.
  • Willing to travel and work nights/weekends as events require.
  • Collaborative, adaptable and flexible in dynamic environments.
  • Strong communication skills

Preferred Competencies (Would Be GREAT to Have!)

  • Experience with Blackmagic ATEM switchers, NewTek TriCaster, SDI/NDI workflows, capture cards, Resolume, and live streaming encoders.
  • Working knowledge of LED and projection display systems, trussing, and power distribution.
  • Proficiency in Vectorworks to produce accurate CAD plots and video schematics

This position is full-time ($40,000 to $55,000 depending on experience) and requires some work on nights/weekends.  Benefits include 50% single health insurance policy 100% single dental and vision policies, 100% AD&D insurance, and $25,000 life insurance policy.
