Librarian, Senior Outreach Services Management
The Librarian, Senior, Outreach Services Management plays a vital leadership role in broadening the reach and impact of our library system. This position is responsible for developing and executing strategic outreach initiatives that promote equitable access, community engagement, and inclusive programming. The manager oversees all mobile and off-site outreach operations, supervises key staff, and coordinates services to underserved populations, including homebound individuals.
This role directly supervises the Head Librarian of Home Borrower Services and two Library Associates, while also managing the planning and maintenance of community Book Walk installations to foster literacy and public engagement in outdoor spaces.
Duties and Responsibilities

Outreach Operations & Leadership
- Direct and coordinate system-wide mobile outreach services.
- Oversee daily operations and maintenance of library outreach vehicles; drive county vehicles for outreach as needed.
- Strategically plan and implement new outreach initiatives in collaboration with Library Administration.
- Identify and address barriers to service, recommending solutions and expansion opportunities.

Staff Supervision & Development
- Recruit, train, supervise, coach, and evaluate departmental and outreach-related staff.
- Ensure appropriate staffing, scheduling, and workflow across mobile and off-site outreach efforts.
- Community Engagement & Programming
- Develop and support off-site programs and in-house activities for underserved or marginalized groups.
- Represent the library at community events and build partnerships to expand service delivery.
- Promote services through presentations, community involvement, and public speaking engagements.

Collection & Program Management
- Manage the outreach materials collection, including selection, distribution, and weeding.
- Maintain and rotate featured stories at Book Walk locations.
- Submit purchase order requests for programming and outreach supplies.

Administrative Duties & Collaboration
- Participate in budget planning and make recommendations for outreach needs and future vehicle acquisitions.
- Attend management and Youth Services Supervisor team meetings.
- Receive Supercharged Storytime training to support early literacy initiatives.
- Provide exceptional internal and external customer service, including direct patron interaction.
Education, Experience, Licensing

Required Education & Experience
- Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science, or a closely related field from an accredited graduate library school program.
- At least two (2) years of library, customer service, or related experience.

Preferred Qualifications
- Four (4) years of related library experience.
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience.
- Proven background in outreach, community engagement, or accessibility services.

Licensing Requirements
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Supplemental Information
Deep understanding of library outreach practices and inclusive public service models.
Experience with accessibility resources, including services for patrons with disabilities and the Talking Books program.
Strong leadership, staff development, and team-building capabilities.

Additional Information
- The Library System may require employees to make either a temporary, or long-term, permanent transfer to another library location to accommodate the organization's business needs. T
- This position requires 80 Hours Bi-Weekly; hours and days will vary to include evenings, Saturdays, and some Sundays.
