Job Description
Position Summary:
The Music Teacher position is a part-time position for Japhet School. This position includes teaching students in Preschool and Kindergarten once per week and 1st through 8th grade twice per week, and creating/directing the following performances: Thanksgiving Gratitude Service (November), Holiday Giving Concert (December), Spring Sharing Musical (May), and supporting our Graduation Ceremony (June). The curriculum focus is vocal music, rhythm and beat, movement, music appreciation, and an introduction of musical instruments. Teaching occurs in a multi-purpose classroom with the goal of helping students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned experiences which includes singing, moving to music, playing of instruments, and listening to others perform.
The position reports directly to the Head of School.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plans, prepares, and implements weekly activities as they relate to the curriculum
- Plans and executes a balanced music program so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time
- Selects appropriate music and instructional aids to enhance learning
- Teaches skills in music understanding and appreciation
- Requisitions musical instruments and supplies as needed
- Provides a warm, safe, and nurturing learning environment
- Evaluates each student’s musical growth, performance, and musical understanding
- Performs other duties assigned by the Head of School
- Supports Japhet School and its leadership
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Two years or more of experience in teaching
- Strong communication skills: written, oral, and listening
- Commitment to the mission and philosophy of Japhet School
- Personal characteristics: including integrity, initiative, reliability, punctuality, and joy of teaching.
