The Arc Erie County NY is a mission-driven nonprofit organization committed to supporting individuals with developmental disabilities in achieving their fullest potential. We provide compassionate, person-centered services across a variety of programs including day habilitation, residential, and employment services. Our IT department plays a critical role in supporting the systems and technologies that keep our operations running smoothly and securely.
Internship Overview:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated I.T. Intern to join our team for the Fall 2025 semester. This unpaid internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a nonprofit environment while making a meaningful impact on the lives of others. The intern will support various IT functions, including hardware and software troubleshooting, system administration, help desk operations, and basic network management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with end-user support and troubleshooting for hardware, software, and connectivity issues
- Support the setup, maintenance, and inventory of computers, printers, and other IT equipment
- Help maintain and update IT documentation and asset management systems
- Participate in routine system maintenance, updates and backups
- Assist with user onboarding and account creation in systems such as email, file storage, and applications
- Work alongside IT staff on special projects, such as device rollouts, software upgrades, or security audits
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to organizational policies, especially regarding HIPAA and data security
Learning Objectives:
- Gain practical experience in IT support and infrastructure within a nonprofit setting
- Develop technical troubleshooting and customer service skills
- Learn about compliance and best practices in IT operations and data privacy
- Understand how IT supports service delivery for individuals with developmental disabilities
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a college/university program (Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field)
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, Windows operating systems, and general hardware components
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- A willingness to learn and contribute to a collaborative team environment
- Respect for and interest in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities
- Must be 18 years or older
Time Commitment:
- Fall 2025 semester
- 10 – 15 hours per week (flexible around class schedules)
- Internship may be eligible for college credit (check with your academic advisor)
