Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic - Job Requirements

Cobalt Diesel is looking for a highly motivated individual to maintain equipment and vehicle operation by completing inspections and preventative maintenance requirements, correcting vehicle deficiencies, making adjustments and alignments, and keeping records by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests and identifying worn and damaged parts.

Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules, installing component and part upgrades and controlling corrosion.

Performs all work in accordance with schedules, policies, procedures and standards of quality and safety.

Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts or systems-such as power and drive trains, electrical air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering hydraulics, completes machine shop operations.

Makes alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, hydraulics, pneumatic and traction units.

Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives, adjusting controls and systems.

Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety and combustion control standards.

Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing and painting.

Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.

Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, calling for repairs.

Shop tools are provided by Cobalt Diesel. Employees must provide a full general toolbox with some special tools.

Must continue to update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading technical journals and regulation publications.

Enhances maintenance department and organization by reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Maintains and assures cleanliness and neatness of the shop area. Assured safety standards are met.

Other duties may be assigned.

 

 

Position Requirements and Education

  • Requires a vocational/technical diploma; and 4 years' experience as a diesel mechanic doing fleet maintenance and repair; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must have a valid driver's license (Class C) to occasionally drive non commercial vehicles. Must be insurable.

Working Conditions

Employees will climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Must be able to use up to 35 pounds of force occasionally. Direct frontal reaching is required while the employee may be required to lift 5 pounds over the head occasionally, must also be able to lift up to 10 pounds to waist height.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and possible extreme heat.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
