DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The Public Utility Enforcement Officer is part of the uniformed PUC Motor Carrier Enforcement Division covering the 67 counties of Pennsylvania. Within this role, you will exercise the authority to stop and inspect all commercial motor vehicles to ensure they are in safe operating condition. This position is responsible for protecting the motoring public by placing unsafe vehicles and drivers out-of-service. On occasion, you will work side-by-side and in conjunction with state and local police with the goal of preventing and reducing the number of injuries and fatalities involving commercial motor vehicles. This position requires an extensive working knowledge of pertinent Public Utility statutes and regulations, the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Vehicle Equipment and Inspection Manual, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, and the Hazardous Material Regulations. Additional responsibilities include:
- Conducting investigations of consumer and agency-initiated complaints of motor carriers.
- Completing audits as assigned by the division office.
- Compiling detailed reports of investigations and inspections including corrective action recommendations.
- Providing testimony at Commission hearings, District Justice hearings, and County Common Pleas Court.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time, home headquartered employment.
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
- Counties of patrol include Juniata, Mifflin, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder and Union.
- Additional travel may be required.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in police sciences or law enforcement; or
- Four years of professional police experience; or
- Four years of enforcement experience with a governmental regulatory agency’s laws, rules and regulations pertaining to motor vehicles; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Conditions of Employment:
- Successful completion of training and safety courses within six months of employment.
Other Requirements:
- You must reside in or be willing to relocate to Juniata, Mifflin, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder, or Union County within six months of employment.
