The Town of Lincoln—an organization that believes workforce diversity strengthens performance, integrity, trust, and partnerships with our staff, boards, committees, community, and guests—is seeking a full-time Water Operator for its Water Department.
Under the general direction of the Water Superintendent and daily supervision of the Water Filtration Plant Manager and Distribution Foreman, this position performs all duties related to filtration plant operation, meter changes, work orders, customer complaints, raw water pump station maintenance, water mains, wells, storage tanks, telemetry systems, and customer service issues. The operator participates in the rotating on-call schedule and works weekends, holidays, and nights as required. A successful candidate must possess the ability to respond to departmental emergencies and live within 60 minutes of Lincoln.
The Water Operator shall ensure the integrity of the Town's water system through oversight of fire protection systems, hydrant maintenance, semi-annual water system flushing, leak detection, and backflow prevention program. They will maintain daily logs of operating procedures, assist in the preparation and maintenance of a variety of standard reports, including annual state and federal reports, and maintain NPDES compliance reports and sample collection. They will also compile data as required for monthly and quarterly reports to be prepared by the Water Treatment Plant Manager.
The successful candidate must maintain current knowledge of legislative and technical developments affecting water systems through research and attendance at meetings, seminars, and training sessions. They will perform other related duties as required. They must possess a Massachusetts Drinking Water Grade 2 Treatment license and a Grade 2 Distribution license or can obtain within 12 months of hire. A full job description can be found HERE.
