Research & Ecosystem Intern at Marine Research Hub

** Please note: This is not an on-campus job opportunity. This internship opportunity is with the Marine Research Hub located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Funding for this program is provided through FAU's School of Environmental, Coastal and Ocean Sustainability (ECOS).

Location: Remote (with weekly Zoom meetings and periodic in-person meetings with Marine Research Hub (MRH) Executive Director) with the opportunity to join in-person activities hosted and/or guest with MRH. 

Marine Research Hub (MRH) is seeking an undergraduate student for an internship in science/marine/environmental to support research and strategic mapping initiatives within the blue/ocean economy. MRH is a non-profit dedicated to advancing Florida’s Blue/Ocean Economy by fostering collaboration and communication among researchers, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and industry leaders to accelerate commercialization, investment, and ecosystem-building. Based in South Florida, MRH works to elevate the visibility of oceanographic research while facilitating the commercialization of research-based solutions that drive economic growth, create jobs, and enhance marine sustainability.

This role is ideal for students passionate about marine/environmental research, innovation networks, and investment opportunities.

Job Description:

  • Identify and map key assets and resources within the blue/ocean economy
  • Research existing networks, key stakeholders, and opportunities for collaboration within marine science, sustainability, and technology
  • Track and identify emerging pilot opportunities
  • Analyze startup companies focusing on marine sustainability and technology
  • Research funding sources, venture capital firms, and grant opportunities that support marine-focused companies and initiatives
  • Assist in compiling findings into reports, presentations, and strategic recommendations
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to refine data and insights

Qualifications:

  • Junior or senior undergraduate student
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Interest in marine innovation, startups, and investment strategies
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work approximately. 10 hours per week

Compensation:

Please note: Students selected for this internship, must register their internship for 0 credit or academic credit with Florida Atlantic University.
