Human Resources Director - North Seattle College
Seattle Colleges is looking to hire a Human Resources Director serving our North Seattle College campus.
Salary Range for this position is $101,454.00/ yr. to $140,104.00/yr.

Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Vice Chancellor of Human Resources, the Director of Human Resources will be responsible for providing HR leadership and service to the assigned Seattle College and supporting the core mission of Seattle Colleges. The Director provides day-to-day oversight over Human Resources functions, Human Resources leadership to departments throughout campus, and sets the tone for fostering a safe, inclusive, supportive, and equitable work environment for employees.
Successful leadership in this position requires skills and experience in working with a diverse, vibrant community as well as knowledge of and commitment to culturally responsive practices and models that serve a variety of student, employee, and community groups.
As a highly visible member of the Human Resources Team, this position must develop cooperative relationships with staff, faculty, student employees, campus stakeholders, and volunteers. Primary areas of responsibility include: provide leadership and training for district policies, programs, regulations, systems and procedures; provide input and recommendations on top of continual review and improvement; and provide excellent customer service to any person who comes to the office seeking assistance and guidance.
This position is full-time, working 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, primarily 8am to 5pm
This position works a hybrid schedule of both remote and on-site work

What you will be working on:
Human Resources management/administration
- Implements district policies, programs, regulations, systems and procedures, providing input and recommendations on continual review and improvement.
- Partners with college groups regarding staffing, department structure, rules interpretation and related personnel issues.
- Leads managers in employee disciplinary processes.
- Resolves staff conflicts and promotes good teamwork practice.
- Makes determinations of appropriate classification and compensation for new or changed positions.
- Responds to employee concerns and complaints, ensuring prompt and effective responses.
- Represents the college at quarterly meetings of the Washington State Human Resources Management Commission.
- Serves as a member of the district-wide HR team and the compensation committee.
- Work collaboratively across the district and lead (if directed) projects and initiatives in support of student success.
Employee recruitment and hiring
- Leads and advises managers regarding issues related to equity and diversity in employment.
- Provides hiring managers with advice and assistance in developing job descriptions, recruiting, hiring, and onboarding employees.
- Evaluates results of criminal background checks.
- Makes recommendations regarding job offers.
- Coordinates with Office of Instruction on annual recruiting plans.
- Recruits, hires, trains, supervises and evaluates Human Resources support staff.
- Participates in District-led recruiting initiatives that may include occasional evening and weekend work.
- Manages campus side of applicant tracking system.
Equity, Diversity and Inclusion initiatives and leadership
- Leads and advises managers regarding issues related to equity and diversity in equity employment.
- Collaborate in the development and support of district-wide HR initiatives. For example, Inclusion Advocate practices
- Maintain confidential, ethical, respectful, and open communication with college employees that is inclusive of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences.
Policy and Compliance
- With the appropriate training, manages Title IX complaints for the assigned Seattle Colleges employee group.
- Conducts personnel investigations.
- Provide leadership and training to ensure compliance with state and federal laws, including Fair Labor Standards Act, Family Medical Leave Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act, Washington Family Care Act, Workers Compensation, etc.
Employee Unions
- Serves on union contract negotiation teams.
- Understands, uses, and interprets for employees various collective bargaining agreements.
- Monitors and ensures union contract compliance and advises administration and managers in the interpretation and application of negotiated agreements.
- Administers union contracts which includes reviewing exempt contract renewals; generating routine classified employee communications (essential employees; cyclic leave, etc.); responding to grievances; responding to position reviews/promotion requests
Employee training and support
- In cooperation with the Vice Chancellor, ensures union contract training for all levels of employees to educate administrators and managers in the legal requirements of collective bargaining agreements.
- Trains and assists managers in developing and implementing effective performance and evaluation plans.
- Advises supervisors and employees regarding leave requests and needs in accordance with federal and state laws, college policies, and applicable union contracts.
- Works with support staff to ensure cross training within the Human Resources department.

What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or any related field OR 4 or more years of relevant experience
- Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in Human Resources
- Three or more years of supervisory experience or three years of experience leading a team
- Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated current knowledge of state and federal employment laws and various interpretations and applications of the laws
- Demonstrated cultural proficiency and the ability to communicate and work effectively with people from diverse racial, ethnic, religious, gender, age, sexual orientation, socio-economic backgrounds with diverse physical and learning abilities.
- Demonstrated experience promoting equity in the workplace (e.g. diverse recruitment and hiring practices).
- Proven experience in training adults; able to convey complex information in an understandable way to a variety of audiences in individual, small group and large group settings
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate successfully with all work groups (classified staff, administrative staff, faculty)
- Demonstrated strong attention to detail; able to consistently produce an accurate work product in a fast-paced environment with multiple interruptions under deadlines
- Demonstrated professional level verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college staff and students
- Demonstrated experience managing the human resources function in a union environment
