Accounting Technician

IN THIS ROLE: 

We’re hiring an Accounting Technician to bring precision, energy, and organization to our technical campus. You'll handle a range of financial tasks — from maintaining accurate records for accounting, budgeting, and banking to processing program revenues, managing purchase orders, and reconciling petty cash.

WHAT WE NEED: 

  • Maintain accurate accounting, budgeting, banking and bookkeeping records.
  • Track and deposit program revenues, student activity funds, etc.
  • Account analysis and reconciliation. 
  • Petty cash handling and reconciliation.
  • Purchasing Card Program cardholder; includes reconciliation duties.
  • Create and monitor purchase orders, including one-time and blanket orders.
  • Monitor Oakland Schools’ compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), 
  • Maintain records for financial audits.
  • Make travel arrangements for employees.
  • Utilize system reports to analyze financial transactions and campus budgets. 
  • Ability to handle challenging situations (good problem-solving abilities).
  • Participate in group, department, and organizational meetings and committees. 
  • The ability to work 7.5 hours a day during our normal work schedule.
  • All other duties as assigned
     

WHAT YOU NEED: 

  • High School diploma
  • Associate’s degree in accounting preferred or other business-related field.
  • Two to three years of related experience such as accounting, bookkeeping, banking, or other financial fields.
  • Experience with Accounting/ERP Software is preferred.
  • Ability to interpret and apply Board Policies and Administrative Rules.
  • Prior experience with Accounting/ERP Software is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a cohesive team.

SALARY DETAILS: 

$22.10 - $25.63 hourly based on relevant prior work experience, with the potential to earn up to $27.59 after employment with Oakland Schools. 

Non Exempt position / 12-month work year. 

 

Please note that salary schedules will be updated effective July 1, 2025, for the upcoming fiscal year.
