POSITION SNAPSHOT
The BI Reporting Analyst is a key role in leveraging data to support decision-making and improve services at the Minnesota Valley Transit Authority. This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining data reporting solutions, ensuring accurate, accessible, and actionable data insights for internal and external stakeholders. The role collaborates closely with various teams to transform raw data into meaningful reports and dashboards, enhancing organizational efficiency and service delivery.
KEY CONTRIBUTIONS
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather, analyze, and document reporting requirements.
- Develop and maintain data models, reports, and dashboards using tools like Power BI, Tableau, and other enterprise-level platforms.
- Design and implement ETL processes to collect, clean, and transform data from various sources.
- Monitor data quality, conduct validation checks, and resolve inconsistencies.
- Optimize SQL queries and database operations to ensure efficient data retrieval.
- Create user-friendly, data-driven visualizations and reports tailored to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Develop and enforce data governance practices to ensure compliance with privacy and security standards.
- Train staff on data reporting tools and techniques to foster a culture of data-driven decision-making.
- Troubleshoot and resolve data reporting issues promptly to ensure continuity of operations.
- Produce ad hoc reports and deliver regular datasets for end-users using database queries and scripts.
- Maintain technical documentation for data workflows, reporting processes, and specifications.
- Follow established guidelines and procedures to ensure consistency and quality.
- Perform other duties as assigned or apparent.
CORE COMPETENCIES & CREDENTIALS
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent full-time experience in a technical role.
- Experience with SQL or equivalent querying languages/tools.
- Experience creating data-driven reports and dashboards.
- Ability to translate business needs into technical requirements through active collaboration.
- Experience resolving data discrepancies through research and analysis.
- Experience presenting data insights to leadership to drive decision-making.
- Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, gather requirements, and communicate insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong skills in designing and developing visually appealing and interactive dashboards, reports, and data visualizations using tools like Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
- Ability to analyze complex problems, identify alternative solutions, and make data-driven decisions.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of programming languages like Python, R, or others for data manipulation, statistical analysis, or automation tasks.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy and reliability of data and reports.
- Business acumen and ability to align data analysis with organizational strategy.
- Experience in a Business Intelligence role that includes building graphs and charts to communicate useful insights in the data.
