Status: Full Time during summer (40 hours/week), PT during school year (10 hours/week)

Job Summary:

Great River Energy is seeking an Electrical Engineering Intern to provide support to the field services team that maintains electrical substation equipment including circuit breakers and transformers.  Will assist the substation field engineer and field supervising managers with analyzing substation equipment test results and developing condition-based maintenance program. This position is located in Elk River, MN with the eligibility to work in a hybrid environment.  We provide competitive internship pay ($28.60-$36.50) and the duration of the internship will be PT during the school year (minimum of 10 hours/week) and FT during Summer/Breaks.
Key Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with diverse stakeholder audiences to develop analytic models, forecasts, and visualizations involving major electrical transmission system asset utilization, performance, condition, and optimization (data may reside across the asset, supply-chain, and work management process streams)
  2. Data trending of substation equipment
  3. Provide technical skills, electrical knowledge, and research support towards efforts to update major system asset replacement rankings using established methodologies
  4. Review equipment test results and initiate work order repair or replacement as necessary
  5. Provide technical expertise for installation and determine testing and maintenance requirements of substation equipment
  6. Research and identify replacement parts for retrofit installations on substation equipment
  7. Ensure that documented maintenance work order information is accurate and complete

Qualifications: 

  1. Currently enrolled in bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
  2. Verbal and written communication skills.
  3. Ability to research, analyze, and make recommendations related to engineering decisions.
  4. Ability to take directions and work within a team environment.
  5. Demonstrated experience in utilizing problem solving skills to address primarily technical nature issues.
  6. Experience working with interactive visualization tools such as Microsoft Power BI, Advance Excel, or Python will be beneficial.
     

Working Conditions

Much of the work will be in a normal office environment with some work being performed in the field at construction sites and electrical substations. Office work involves working at a computer station for long periods of time.   Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job.
