About the Organization:

The Stephen & Laurel Brown Foundation (Foundation/SLBF) serves the University of Wisconsin and Madison communities by leading Christian thought and formation to shape today’s pluralistic university. We gather communities, educate for formation, and produce scholarship within the university for greater Christian impact. SLBF comprises several initiatives: The Lumen Center, New College Madison, a student Fellows Program, and a Media Studio. The Foundation includes two physical properties: Upper House – based in University Square in the heart of the University of Wisconsin–Madison campus, and Dottie’s Ranch – a retreat center located fifteen miles outside Madison. The SL Brown Foundation is a Consortium of Christian Study Centers member. 

Position

The Communications Coordinator (CC) will report to the Manager of Creative Services (MCS). This role provides hands-on contributions in social media, content creation, copywriting, editing, and marketing. Working closely with the MCS and the Marketing and Communications team, the CC will ensure communication initiatives are planned, executed, and delivered effectively and on time.

This role demands exceptional organizational skills to meet strategic goals. The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative environment while building strong cross-departmental relationships to align messaging and achieve shared objectives. Additionally, they will contribute to the Foundation’s mission by amplifying its voice, telling its story, and fostering audience engagement.

Responsibilities:

Content Creation, Management, and Marketing (50%)

  • Contribute to content generation and scheduling (e.g., newsletters, mailings, articles, reports, storyboards, and scripts for videos, webpages, etc.) to advance SLBF’s mission consistently; give voice to evidence of transformation through writing original content pieces (including audience stories) for various channels.
  • Collaborate on marketing campaigns, from ideation to execution.
  • Develop and contribute compelling content for social media, newsletters, and websites with other communication team members.
  • Write, edit, and proofread content tailored to various audiences and platforms.

Assessment, Consulting, and Alignment of Content and Production (35%)

  • Consult with curators, content creators, the Director of Creative Services, and designers on program descriptions/titles and communication initiatives to ensure clarity, audience appropriateness, brand voice, and delivery mechanisms.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Media & Technology on quality control of the SLBF website, ensuring that all information is accurate and presented correctly.
  • Contribute to updating existing web pages and creating new pages based on new content/projects/staff, and/or organizational milestones.
  • Research, proofread, and publish both traditional and online media. 

Special Projects Engagement (10%)

  • Collaborate with project-specific teammates and provide leadership for developing content for special projects, such as the annual report, fund development initiatives, student engagement survey, etc.
  • Support communications product development for grant initiatives, such as The Higher Pursuits Project, Awaken Dane, Science for the Church, etc.

Professional Growth and Personal Renewal (5%)

  • Participate in professional development opportunities and conferences.
  • Pursue personal spiritual renewal through biblical disciplines and active involvement in a local church community.
  • Establish connections with peers in similar fields to share best practices and stay updated on trends.

Qualifications: 

The ideal candidate is passionate about collaboration and contributing to a mission-driven team. Required qualifications include:

  • A strong commitment to the Lordship of Jesus Christ and alignment with SLBF’s Statement of Faith.
  • Active engagement in a local church community and demonstrated spiritual maturity.
  • A bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication abilities.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • A collaborative mindset, paired with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience with project management software (examples: Asana, Notion, Monday, Trello).
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, content creation tools, and marketing strategies.
  • A passion for integrating marketing with academic, theological, and marketplace goals and connecting theology to educational and professional pursuits, particularly those of SLBF’s core audiences: university faculty, staff, students, and the broader community.
