Entry-Level Survey CAD Drafter

Job Summary:

CMES, Inc. is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Entry-Level Survey CAD Drafter to support road construction projects across Georgia. This role is ideal for individuals with a background in surveying, or geomatics who are looking to gain hands-on experience in preparing construction-ready drawings and 3D models using Autodesk Civil 3D and Bentley OpenRoads Designer.

The selected candidate will assist with drafting layout sheets, converting field data, and supporting corridor modeling tasks based on GDOT standard details, design manuals, and project-specific requirements. The role offers exposure to real-world infrastructure projects and direct collaboration with engineers, field crews, Superintendents and Project Managers

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review PDF plan sets to extract key design information such as horizontal alignments, vertical profiles, and typical sections for roadway features.
  • Create and organize geometry and typical sections in Civil 3D and Bentley OpenRoads Designer to prepare for accurate 3D corridor modeling, then export survey-grade accurate layout files and construction linework for field use
  • Process survey field data and prepare existing ground profiles to support design validation and updates.
  • Process existing asphalt survey data (3pt level) and prepare comparison cross sections with proposed design for GDOT submittals
  • Convert 2D CAD files, PDFs, and markups into usable model geometry and layout sheets

Required Qualifications:

  • Able to read and interpret road construction plan sets. A plus if experience with GDOT standard details, GDOT Design Manuals, typical sections, and construction specifications.
  • Familiarity with Autodesk Civil 3D and Bentley Open Roads Designer for civil infrastructure modeling and drafting tasks.
  • Basic understanding of roadway geometry, including:
    • Horizontal and vertical alignments
    • Typical sections, vertical profiles, cross sections, utility layouts, drainage drawings, retaining wall layouts
  • Familiarity with survey equipment and field data, such as total stations, GNSS receivers, and digital levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook, for reports, documentation, and internal coordination
  • Educational background in Geomatics, Surveying, or a related field.
  • Willingness to learn company workflows and support survey team and construction field operations.
