Student Donor Experience Officer (SDXO)

The Student Donor Experience Officer (SDXO) role at Oakland University offers a unique opportunity to be part of the university’s fundraising efforts.

This role adapts, creates, and distributes content that builds meaningful connections, expresses gratitude, encourages fundraising support, and communicates the impact of philanthropic gifts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with alumni, donors and parents using a combination of communication channels, including video, email, social media, texting, virtual visits, and phone, to provide engagement and solicitation (fundraising) opportunities that reflect the donor’s unique interests.
  • Under the direction of professional staff, maintain donor-centered relationships with a portfolio of alumni, students, parents, and friends of the university.
  • Share your personal OU experience to illustrate the impact of donations and encourage continued support.
  • Contribute to the ongoing success of the university’s fundraising campaigns by soliciting donations and sharing institutional updates. These campaigns support the scholarships, research and extracurriculars that make OU a great place to study!
  • Uphold donor confidentiality, fundraising ethics and FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) guidelines. All employees must sign a confidentiality agreement.
  • Being comfortable utilizing video, phone, email, and virtual communication technology is critical to success in this role.
     

Qualifications: 

Individuals from any major or background are encouraged to apply if they meet the following qualifications:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, particularly being able to tell a story in a traditional manner (example: via phone, one-to-one meeting, etc.) and or creatively (example: creating video content to tell a story, utilizing Canva or similar, etc).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Enthusiastic about Oakland University and motivated to share your passion with others.
  • Adaptable, with strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Persistent, respectful, and dedicated to continuous improvement.

Work Schedule:

  • Minimum of 6 hours and up to 25 hours per week with flexible scheduling to accommodate academic/extracurricular commitments.
  • Students will be asked to commit to at least one semester, with the option to extend.
  • Work will generally be completed during regular university business hours, except for special opportunities or projects such as attending an event, participating in a photo/video shoot, accompanying a gift officer on a donor meeting, etc.
