Development & Communications Intern

Agency Background: The Women's Resource Center (WRC), established in 1973, is dedicated to empowering women through improved workplace and economic opportunities. We provide services that enable women to realize their potential, achieve their goals, and attain economic self-sufficiency.

Objectives: An intern will gain practical experience in:

  1. Understanding WRC's mission, programs, and their impact on disadvantaged women.
  2. Learning fundraising, communication, and marketing strategies within a nonprofit setting.
  3. Analyzing how metrics and statistics influence fundraising and marketing materials.
  4. Observing the strategic planning process within a community-based nonprofit.

Key Responsibilities: The intern will assist with:

  1. Developing and implementing communications plans.
  2. Conducting community needs/market position research and data analysis for strategic planning.
  3. Planning annual fundraising events, including the Fall Wine, Women and Chocolate event and the Spring Pillar Award event.
  4. Preparing and analyzing Direct Mail Appeal campaigns.
  5. Managing donor data through gift processing, data entry, and database maintenance.
  6. Supporting donor stewardship and solicitation activities (e.g., communications, mailing lists).
  7. Contributing content to WRC marketing materials, including newsletters, social media, and the agency website.
  8. Performing other assigned duties.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a second year or greater of an A.A. or B.A. program in nonprofit administration, business, social work, or a related field.
  • Strong belief in and support for WRC's mission.
  • Prior office work experience is preferred but not required.

Skills:

  • Eagerness to learn and follow direction.
  • Excellent writing skills (grammar, spelling accuracy).
  • Strong organizational skills (task prioritization, follow-through).
  • Proficient in Internet research.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and social media platforms (e.g., Word, LinkedIn, Meta/Instagram).

Reports To: Development & Communications Manager and/or Executive Director

Hours: Minimum 8 hours per week; maximum 20 hours per week.
