Dean of the Chinese Program

International Theological Seminary (ITS) is dedicated to academic excellence in theological education and preparing pastors and leaders for the global church. Job description:
As the Dean of the Chinese Program, he or she will help to cultivate a learning community committed to our mission and values. His/her responsibilities will encompass: 

  • Report directly to the Academic Dean and work alongside the Assistant Dean and the Dean of the Korean Program
  • Oversee the Chinese-language faculty and academic programs (MA, MDiv, DMin,
    DICS) and ensuring students’ success in preparation for various Christian
    ministries
  • Planning of the annual teaching plan and quarterly class schedule for the
    Chinese program

Appointment:
This position is appointed by the President in conjunction with consultation/understanding of the VP for Academic Affairs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • teach one course/quarter, which is part of expectations of all administrative officers who are also considered resident faculty.
  • serve in any committee deemed necessary.
  • help build, develop, and lead a faculty team dedicated to academic excellence and
    committed to Christ and the seminary's mission.
  • help ensure effective communication with the faculty and implementation of academic decisions.
  • collaborate with the annual updating of policies outlined in the Faculty Handbook and the Academic Catalog to reflect current standards and practices.
  • maintain the faculty files and regularly evaluate faculty performance to uphold
    academic excellence and provide guidance for professional development.
  • (if needed) organize colloquiums, lectures, faculty workshops and development
    programs, and related activities to enhance educational effectiveness.
  • participate in the Curriculum Review Committee to assess and revise academic
    curriculum.
  • consult with the Director of Admissions to evaluate student applications and recommend for admission.
  • serve on the seminary’s Academic Committee.
  • recommend students, when eligible, for graduation.
  • serve as one member of the editors and translators in the seminary journal
    publication and ITS newsletters.
  • submit annual reports to the Dean and the President.

Qualifications:

  • Fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
  • MDiv preferred; DMin, DICS, ThD, or PhD in a traditional theological discipline
    required.
  • Proven administrative experience in higher education.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the seminary's mission and values.
  • Experience working in multicultural environments and fostering diversity.
  • Proficiency in online teaching methodologies and practices.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly motivated and adept at initiating tasks independently and collaborating
    effectively with a team
  • Possess flexibility to handle various job responsibilities.

Employment Details:

  • Full-time position, exempt status.
  • Salary range is $36,000-$38,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • Must be on campus at least twice/week, especially on Tuesdays during term time for chapels.
  • PTO: 10 days of paid vacation per year. Health benefits are not provided, but sick
    leave accrues and is earned, capped at 48 hours as mandated by California regulations.
  • This is a 3/4 position at 30 hours/week.
