Maintenance Worker I

Saint Paul Regional Water Services (SPRWS) provides drinking water and related services to the City of Saint Paul in addition to several surrounding suburban communities including Maplewood, West Saint Paul, Lauderdale, Falcon Heights, Mendota, and Mendota Heights. Our valued employees provide water for 450,000 customers on a daily basis. The current openings are located at Saint Paul Regional Water Services (SPRWS), 1900 Rice Street, Saint Paul, MN.

Here's what you can expect to do:

  • Conduct regular inspections for the raw water pumping stations, water treatment plant equipment, and plant HVAC systems
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks on SPRWS equipment and systems
  • Keep record of maintenance work throughout SPRWS facilities and station equipment
  • Lift and carry heavy equipment, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces

Information specific to this position: 
This position also involves cleaning and maintaining water treatment basins during cold water period. Training will be provided to employee to operate at the dewatering facility to process spent lime solids, clean and repair solids filter presses. Employee will be trained to conduct confined space entry into underground basins with fall protection and follow OSHA safety rules and practices.  

Duties are performed in both an indoor environment and outdoors involving exposure to rain, snow, cold, heat, road dust, and traffic noise. Work involves standing, stooping, or walking and involves daily lifting of objects weighing up to 90 pounds.  Duties also include climbing ladders and driving in trucks to and from job sites.

Position Requirements

Must meet ONE of the following requirements

  • One year of experience performing entry level water industry labor including treatment plant, wastewater plant, supply or distribution related work.
  • Two years of labor experience in a plant facility unrelated to water.
  • Completion of a vocational school program in water treatment/operations.
  • Successful completion of the SPRWS Trainee Program.

 

Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License or equivalent out-of-state driver's license.

Assessment: Qualifications Rating

The Qualifications Rating is an assessment of your completed application and answers to the Supplemental Questionnaire. GENERAL INFORMATION:

Open Job Posting: This posting is open to anyone who meets the position requirements. 

Eligible Lists: Eligible lists are typically created from a pass/fail assessment. Those who pass the assessment will be placed on an eligible list for approximately six months. Hiring Managers may interview/hire anyone from the list.

Final Selection Process: You must receive a score of 75% or higher to pass the assessment and be considered for the position. Those who pass will be placed on an eligible list and all will be notified of their status. A Hiring Manager will consider those applicants eligible for hire. You will be notified if you are invited to participate in the final selection process which may include an interview, job simulation, work sample submission, or other evaluation method.  

Pre-Employment Screening: This position requires a medical examination, driver’s license check, drug test, and a background check which may include criminal history, and employment history as a condition of employment. Candidates will be required to submit proof of education to Human Resources upon conditional job offer, if qualifying based on education.
