Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our high school teaching team for the academic year 2024–2025. The ideal candidate will be committed to supporting students with diverse learning needs through individualized instruction, collaborative teaching, and inclusive classroom practices. This position plays a critical role in ensuring all students can access the curriculum and make meaningful progress in alignment with their educational goals.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide direct special education instruction and support to students in small group, inclusion, and/or resource settings based on individual student needs.
- Create and implement school-based accommodation plans that reflect students’ academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs, using IEPs as a model to ensure equitable access to instruction and support; collaborate with general education teachers to support successful implementation.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to modify and adapt lesson plans, assessments, and classroom materials to support diverse learners.
- Utilize evidence-based strategies, differentiated instruction, assistive technology, and scaffolding techniques to meet varied learning needs.
- Monitor student progress toward IEP goals through data collection, formative assessments, and ongoing observations; provide regular updates to families and IEP teams.
- Prepare for and lead IEP meetings; serve as case manager for a caseload of students, ensuring compliance with all federal and state special education regulations.
- Foster a supportive, inclusive classroom culture that values student voice, promotes independence, and encourages self-advocacy.
- Maintain timely and effective communication with students, parents/guardians, support staff, and school administrators.
- Teach an Academic Support class focused on modeling and developing executive functioning skills; guide students in applying organization, time management, study strategies, and self-advocacy techniques to their current coursework across subject areas.
- Participate actively in professional development, school-wide initiatives, and student support team meetings.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Massachusetts teaching license in Moderate Disabilities (5–12) preferred.
- Experience supporting high school students with diverse learning needs in inclusive and/or small group settings (preferred).
- Strong knowledge of special education laws, IEP development, accommodations, and differentiated instruction.
- Proficiency in integrating assistive technology and learning tools to enhance access and engagement.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Commitment to collaboration with faculty, families, and student support teams.
- Willingness to contribute to the school’s co-curricular life and mission-driven programming.
