Position Title: Lab Intern
Location: Long Beach, CA
Position Type: Full Time, Intern Contractor
Salary Range: $25.00 per hour
Schedule: M-F
Environment: Onsite

Position Overview:
The Intern will support the center and Lab Manager by performing tests and characterization on metallic materials with a focus on powder and part evaluation in additive manufacturing processes. This position is ideal for student looking to gain hands on experience in high tech laboratory environments.
Description of responsibilities:
- Sample preparation: Cut, mount, polish, and etch metal samples for optical and SEM analysis
- Microscopy and imaging: Operate optical and scanning electron microscope to evaluate microstructure and surface features
- Powder characterization: Conduct particle size distribution fluid polity and moisture content analysis.
- Mechanical testing: Assist with mechanical property evaluation including tensile and hardness testing.
- Data analysis and reporting: Collect and analyze and document test result prepared data summaries and maintain lab records.
- Documentation and compliance: Update safety data sheets SDS standard operating procedures sops and ensure add parents to lab protocols.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Educations: Current enrollment in the material science, mechanical engineering or related field programs.
- Experience: Previous lab coursework or hands on experience preferred.
- Technical skills: Familiarity with sample preparation microscopy and lab safety practices.
- Software: Proficiency in Microsoft Office experience with data analysis tools is a plus.
- Communications: Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Physical requirements:
- Ability to lift and handle lab materials weighing up to 30 lbs.
- Extended period of standing during the sample preparation or testing
