Job Summary:

The school nurse aide/Office clerk is to care for minor student health injuries and/or illnesses in an expedient and safe manner and provide back up to the front office. This position will work with parents, students, and school medical personnel for the control and prevention of disease and for the development of optimum health of each student.

  • Provides first aid and emergency care to students, school staff, and visitors following the regulations and procedures established by Magnolia Public Schools, Los Angeles County Health Department and the Los Angeles County office of Education
  • Provides information on selected health problems to parents, staff, and students; compiles confidential health problems list.
  • Maintains health related supplies and materials for the nurses office at the school site.
  • Carries out delegated nursing tasks for students and staff
  • Implements federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and procedures related to school health services
  • Carries out health services procedures established by the Magnolia Public Schools
  • Observes for student health, psychosocial and other needs and refers student appropriately
  • Maintains accurate, confidential, and appropriate records following established procedures
  • Identifies and documents students with health problems and refers students to appropriate resources as necessary
  • Maintains emergency procedure information for students and staff
  • Supports health promotion for students, staff, parents, and community
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Other Duties include:

  • Perform a variety of clerical activities, including preparing routine correspondence, sorting and filing of records, documents, mail and other material
  • Assist with attendance, absence and tardy tracking; enter information into a proprietary student information system; generate lists, rosters and reports IF needed
  • Assist in the health office as needed; provide basic first aid to ill or injured students, and make appropriate notifications to parents or guardians
  • Answer phones, greet and direct visitors, take and relay messages; provide routine information to students, parents or guardians
  • Operate a variety of contemporary office equipment
  • Inventory, order and distribute office and classroom supplies as needed
  • Assist in supervising students sent to the office for disciplinary or other reasons
  • Perform related duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year or 2000 hours of paid or volunteer experience providing related health care services
  • Completion of a Certified Nurse Assistant or Home Health Aide program may be substituted for six months of paid or volunteer experience providing related health care services
  • CPR and First Aid certificates or a valid California Vocational Nurses License

Some knowledge of the school organization and the community it serves

Ability to develop positive working relationships.
