AmeriCorps Youth Mental Health Fellow (Century College)
The AmeriCorps Youth Mental Health Fellow program combines AmeriCorps service and Century College coursework (obtaining the Mental and Behavioral Health Worker Certificate) focused on supporting middle and high school students with individual and whole-school mental health supports. This program is open to 18-24 year olds who are interested in Behavioral Health career fields. Youth Mental Health Fellows serve as caring adults who support, mentor, and build positive relationships with young people in 6-12th grade, serving as part of a national AmeriCorps Youth Mental Health Corps with individuals from four other states.
AmeriCorps Youth Mental Health Fellow Position Responsibilities
Student Support
- Establish and foster strong caring adult relationships with assigned student caseload
- Provide weekly support to students through 1:1 meetings or small group facilitation aimed at increasing youth mental health, academic engagement, school attendance, and social and emotional skills
- Proactively build relationships with teachers, campus staff, community partners, and families for a student-centered approach to support
- Meet regularly with site Youth Success Team to review data and identify youth to serve, track student progress, and align interventions with student needs
- Implement a student-led project that engages youth in service and leadership activities and contributes to campus climate
- Provide attendance and behavior coaching for students targeted for needing assistance as determined through the multi-tiered system of support approach; promote positive behavior expectations
- Maintain data collection and entry for program records, complete ongoing youth assessments and submit weekly and monthly reports using an online database system
- Participate in all required Alliance, AmeriCorps, and Host Site meetings, trainings, and assignments
- Model positive and appropriate behavior as a part of the school community, upholding all school and Alliance policies and procedures
Student Mental Health Pilot Project Responsibilities
- Work in collaboration with host site to determine needs and develop programming to support positive-social student behavior
- Design and implement learning initiatives that promote the emotional well-being, personal growth, and positive mental health of students
- Develop evaluation tools and methods in collaboration with host site to measure project impact
Mental and Behavioral Health Worker Certificate Responsibilities
- Be enrolled in Century College’s Mental and Behavioral Health Worker Certificate program, working towards program completion
- Successfully complete the following courses:
- PSYC 1050 - Introduction to Mental and Behavioral Health Work
- HSCI 1100 - Interventions in Mental and Behavioral Health
- ENGL 1020 - Composition I or ENGL 1021 - Composition I
- PSYC 1020 - General Psychology
- PSYC 2021 - Psychological Disorders
- PSYC 2780 - Internship in Psychology (your AmeriCorps service will count as your internship)
- Complete all required coursework and assignments (must earn a grade of C or above in each course)
Minimum QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be 18 years of age or older by the time of program start date
- Must have at least a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent educational qualification
- Must be either a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National or Lawful Permanent Resident of the United States
- Must not have served four or more prior terms of service AmeriCorps State and National
- Must be able to pass National Service Criminal Service History Background check (including National Sex Offender Registry, State of service and State of residence, and FBI checks) - eligibility requirements listed here
You EARN:
- AmeriCorps Living Stipend (pre-tax): Full-time (40hrs/week) members receive $1236 semi-monthly
- AmeriCorps Education Award: Members will receive $7395 upon successful completion of service. The education award can be used toward federally qualifying student loans (federal student financial aid loans, not including ParentPlus loans) or future qualified post-secondary education

Positions are available starting August 16, 2025, and ending June 30, 2026.
