Student Assistant 4 - Department of Internal Medicine, Division of General Medicine (3-Students)

Job Description: 

Working under the supervision of a clinical research coordinator, the student will assist with one of two clinical trials within Dr. Dossett’s lab in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Bioethics on the Sacramento campus. One study is examining whether bilingualism, speaking more than one language, and related lifestyle factors may protect older adults from cognitive decline as they age. A second study is examining the effect of patient and visit-level factors on response to treatment with topical diclofenac in older adults with knee pain from osteoarthritis. 

The student will assist with the identification and screening of potential clinical trial participants and helping the team to prepare for study visits. 

Tasks may include: 

  • Screening and recruiting potential participants via telephone and the medical record.
  • Collecting complex data and keeping complete and accurate records.
  • Utilizing data management systems such as REDCap and Study Pages.
  • Preparing documents and other items needed for study visits.
  • Attending team meetings and working harmoniously with other team members and study co-investigators to accomplish and improve study-related tasks.
  • The student should be comfortable and able to communicate effectively with older adult patients, physicians, and other health care professionals while also maintaining patient confidentiality.

This position is not remote. 

The student will need to travel to the Sacramento campus to work.
