The Executive Office of the President (EOP), Office of Management and Budget (OMB) serves the President of the United States in overseeing the implementation of his vision across the Executive Branch. Specifically, OMB’s mission is to assist the President in meeting his policy, budget, management and regulatory objectives and to fulfill the agency’s statutory responsibilities.

As an intern, you may be asked to

  • Conduct research and analysis to develop issue briefs and other resources on a variety of issue areas including public health infrastructure, cost containment, equity, and workforce.
  • Research, conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis, data management, and strategic problem solving.
  • Develop an understanding of how various health policies and legislative proposals affect veterans, their families and caregivers, and the President's Budget.
  • Attend relevant briefings and provide support in agency and White House meetings.

Applicants should be pursuing an associate, bachelor, or graduate degree, on at least a part-time basis, with at least a 2.0 (undergraduate) or 3.0 (graduate) GPA or higher. Applicants must also be a continuing student with the expectation and intention of continuing their course of study the semester/quarter immediately following the completion of the internship (e.g., returning to school in the Fall semester). If your academic plans change after your application and you are no longer a continuing student or have a break in classes longer than five months before your internship begins, you will no longer be eligible for this internship. 

Additional Eligibility Requirements 

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen at the time of application
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Males must be registered with the Selective Service
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate college, community college, or university in good academic standing at the time of application with the intent to continue your education following the internship
  • Must obtain a favorable security determination and pass a pre-employment drug test.

Students may be eligible to complete an internship if one of the below requirements is met:

a. Academic Credit. Earning of units or credits via stand-alone course that formally integrates the student’s academic study with practical experience at OMB; 

b. Service Learning. A pedagogical strategy used by partnering learning institutions to help students deepen their understanding of course material by requiring students to participate in activities and experiences in a governmental setting. In Service Learning, students are asked to articulate how the service experience affirms, expands, integrates, or calls into question the academic content of the course; or 

c. Public Interest Stipend. Institutions of higher education or professional organizations may offer enrolled students a one-time, temporary stipend to enable the student to accept an unpaid internship at a government agency, such as OMB—for example, during the summer months in between semesters of enrollment. The school or other organization pays the stipend directly to the student.

Requirements

Transcripts: Your current or most recent school transcript must be included in your online application. Both official and unofficial transcripts are acceptable; however, if you are selected for an internship, you may be required to provide an official transcript before starting your internship. Should your official transcript indicate that you are not an eligible student, your internship offer will be rescinded. 

Resume: A carefully crafted resume should include clubs and organizations, research experience, work experience, volunteer experience, and other internships.

Additional information 

All interns selected for a position will be officially notified by the OMB Internship Program Office via email. This is not a remote position. Candidates must be able to report to the campus located in Washington, D.C. Relocation support is not provided. This announcement is for full-time (32-40 hours/week) unpaid internships.
