NEW HIGHER SALARY: $67,995 - $132,593

The Challenge

We are hiring a County Maintenance Engineer to join our Division 1 Engineering team for Camden, Currituck and Pasquotank Counties.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Coordinate all maintenance and force account construction activities in Camden, Currituck, and Pasquotank Counties in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Supervise and monitor our maintenance program to ensure efficient and safe use of staff, equipment, and materials.
  • Accomplish force account and construction projects.
  • Formulate a comprehensive highway maintenance program within budget.
  • Supervise and evaluate the staff performance.
  • Communicate effectively and maintain working relationship with the public, local governments, and fellow staff.

What You Bring

  • Project management experience managing multiple projects and scheduling/directing multiple work crews.
  • Experience using professional engineering skills and knowledge to troubleshoot and solve highway maintenance problems.
  • Experience tracking cost expenditures in account systems on multiple large projects.
  • Customer service experience solving problems involving explaining engineering concepts to customer groups.
  • Experience supervising the work of others.
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of Civil Engineering and highway maintenance.
  • Considerable knowledge of all field and office engineering instruments.
  • Ability to understand, explain, and administer contracts.
  • Ability to interpret policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships between NCDOT and citizens.
  • Ability to make field investigations on unlevel terrain, including steep slopes, and work in extreme conditions such as ice, snow, dust, and extreme heat and cold.
  • Must be available to manage staff 7 days per week, 24 hours a day.
  • Ability to safely operate a State vehicle.
  • Safety toe shoes.

  

Notes

  • We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.

 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, and
  • 2+ years of relevant experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
