FULL-TIME POSTBACCALAUREATE CLINICAL RESEARCH OPPORTUNITY
Research Description: The Brain Metabolism Lab in the Division of Endocrinology at UNC uses advanced brain imaging modalities such as magnetic resonance spectroscopy coupled with classic investigative techniques in metabolism to understand the effects of diabetes and obesity on the brain.
Position Description: This minimum 12-month, full-time position for a postbaccalaureate clinical research trainee is sponsored by investigators in the Division of Endocrinology at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and administered by UNC’s Postbaccalaureate Biomedical Research Program (PRISM). The position is ideal for a recent graduate interested in gaining clinical and translational research experience prior to applying to medical school or a PhD program in biomedical science. Activities include assisting with all aspects of translational human imaging research studies, including participant recruitment, coordination of study visits, sample collection and processing, data entry, and compliance with regulatory requirements. There may also be opportunities for data analysis and writing in support of manuscript preparation. The candidate would work closely with principal investigators, other study staff including physicians and nurses, and study participants, therefore excellent people skills are of the utmost importance. In addition to gaining research experience, the candidate will also take one graduate-level class and participate in professional development opportunities through the PRISM program. Applicants for the position should have strong communication and organizational skills with excellent attention to detail and the highest ethical standards.
Requirements: Applicants must be: 1) A U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident and 2) A college graduate who received a bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. university in the biomedical or behavioral sciences within approximately 2 years of beginning the program. This a full-time, inperson position with intermittent opportunities for hybrid work. Ideal start date is August 2025. 2- year commitment is preferred but not required. Benefits: $34,000 annual stipend in addition to health insurance, tuition for one graduate-level course, and professional development opportunities through the PRISM program.
