INTERN POSITION 4: Hospitality Internship

Description: Managing office and clientele of a busy music venue

 

The Jazz Loft, a non-profit jazz music venue and museum, offers an exceptional and exciting internship opportunity for someone interested in getting some real hands-on experience with all aspects of managing a busy music venue, its performers and visitors. The jazz Loft has more than 160 live music events each year. You will be a first point contact for guest artists performing at the Jazz Loft; assist with office duties and attend to the needs of our patrons and sponsors when they attend a performance. Duties could include attending evening and weekend events to staff the reception desk and coordinating the installation of new exhibits. Passion for music, musicians and American history a big plus! This internship will be 12 hours a week.

 

This intern should be prepared to work in a high-energy environment; work as part of a team; take instruction and be reliable and organized. You will finish the internship having gained broad experience in various aspects of successfully managing a music venue and museum that houses more than 10,000 pieces of historic jazz memorabilia.

 

Responsibilities: 

 

•Assist with greeting the performers and attending to their needs

  

•Assist with the reception desk with ticket sales, phone calls to patrons, etc.

 

•Providing valuable input on how events could be run more efficiently and                                     effectively

 

•Seating during full house performances

 

•Green Room needs

 

 

•Assistance with hospitality during VIP receptions, artist meet and greet                                         receptions, etc.

 

•Private event coordination including tours, corporate events, collegiate and                                   public school, outreach

 

•Assistance during annual Harbor Jazz Festival, John Monteleone: Art of the Guitar Festival and other large-scale events

 

Qualifications: 

The qualified candidate will be majoring in theater, music, marketing, business, hospitality, or management. Candidate should have excellent verbal, written communication skills, and organizational and be comfortable working on his/her own, under the supervision of a mentor. Enthusiasm for music and musicians a plus. Willingness to pitch and assist wherever needed during events. A warm and friendly demeanor a must. 

 

Learning Objectives: 

·The objective of the internship program is to enhance student learning by providing hands-on experience in managing a lively and busy music venue and museum.  

·Work as part of a professional music venue management team at the Jazz Loft.

·Gain confidence in working with professional artists and coordinating events
