Youth Development Coordinator

Volunteers must commit for a year (sorry, we do not accept short-term volunteers), and have a job on site during the day. Most volunteers work in education, administration and health care. In addition to their job, volunteers spend time with a group of children each evening. Volunteers live in community with other international volunteers from around the world.

Updated openings are posted here: https://www.nph.org/volunteer-openings/.

We need volunteers to serve in education, health care, administration, childcare, therapy, youth ministry, etc. Availability of these different positions may change every 6 months or so. Here is a list of positions typically filled by volunteers. Please be sure to go to our website to see the positions for which we are currently hiring.

Gender Equity Group Coordinators

Chicas Poderosas Coordinator

Hombres de Honor Coordinator

NPH runs two different groups for girls, boys, and adolescents, with the objective of promoting gender equality and leadership in our beneficiaries. Chicas Poderosas is our group for girls and young women, in which the focus is on female empowerment and women's rights. Hombres de Honor is our group for boys and young men, in which we teach the participants about healthy masculinity and gender equality. NPH is looking for volunteers to coordinate and lead these groups. The group coordinators are responsible for planning group lessons and activities, leading the group meetings, and supporting the group participants in their learning. In some countries we also offer these groups to young people who live in communities near NPH headquarters.

Other Responsibilities

Each volunteer chooses an hogar (group of children of the same age living together) at the beginning of their year. Each home’s Volunteer Coordinator will communicate the expectations for hogar time. Usually, it is six days a week, 6 to 8 p.m., but this might vary per home. This has been described as the most fulfilling part of volunteering, the bond and relationships formed with their hogar of children.

Volunteers have every other weekend off, as well as up to 22 days of vacation time after four months of service. Vacation must be arranged according to the specific home’s policies.

All NPH volunteers receive room and board, access to medical care, international health insurance (up to $500/yr), and a modest monthly stipend. Volunteers pay for their transportation to and from the home and domestic (USA) medical insurance. Volunteers must serve for at least one year.
