Makerspace Operations Intern (June 16-July 18, 2025)
The Environmental Charter School (ECS) is seeking applicants for the position of Makerspace Operations Intern.
ECS is a public, tuition-free K–12 charter school located in the East end of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Through an innovative, eco-literacy-based curriculum, we grow active, engaged, empathetic citizens who are critical thinkers and purposeful agents of change. At its core, eco-literacy means all systems in the world (natural, social, and built) are interconnected, and the decisions we make as people in our communities and the world ripple throughout these environments.
About the Role
We’re looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented intern to join our team for a short but impactful 4-week project in our Makerspace, the Remix Lab. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys organizing, learning about creative equipment, and improving workspaces.
During the 19 business days, you’ll help us take inventory of our tools and equipment, research and draft safety guidelines, and assist in reorganizing and redesigning the Remix Lab to make it more functional and inspiring.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Management:
- Catalog all makerspace tools and equipment
- Check for functionality and report missing/damaged items
Safety Documentation:
- Research safe operating procedures for each piece of equipment
- Create or update safety guides for user reference
Lab Organization & Redesign:
- Assist in reorganizing the Remix Lab for better workflow and usability
- Offer input on layout improvements and storage solutions
Qualified Candidates Will Have:
- A strong interest in makerspaces, fabrication tools, design, or creative technologies
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- The ability to work independently and take initiative
- Basic research skills, especially in looking up technical or safety information
- Good communication skills, especially for writing clear safety and instructional documents
- A collaborative mindset and a willingness to jump in and help with hands-on tasks
- Familiarity with tools like 3D printers, laser cutters, or other makerspace equipment (a plus, but not required)
- A positive attitude and an interest in improving creative

Compensation
- A $1,960 stipend for your awesome work over the 4 weeks
