Department Summary
Finance and Administrative Shared Services (FASS) is a strategic shared services hub within the Administrative Services portfolio. FASS specializes in providing comprehensive administrative support to departments within the Vice President of Finance and Administration's portfolio as well as the President's portfolio. The department is committed to offering a seamless, full-service experience in business operations and human resources functions.
FASS is dedicated to fostering strong campus partnerships and delivering exceptional functionality, expertise, efficiency, and service to its clients. The units supported by FASS represent diverse, large-scale business enterprises, encompassing over 1,400 employees and managing a combined operating budget of approximately $200 million.
The FASS Human Resources and Payroll group is dedicated to providing superior customer service and creating partnerships with our colleagues and customers to ensure that HR and payroll needs are fulfilled to the highest standards. The Payroll team is responsible for responding efficiently and accurately to a wide range of payroll inquiries and needs. The Human Resources team provides full cycle recruitment services, as well as guidance and support for employee onboarding, performance management, and a broad array of employee relations and personnel topics.
Position Summary
The Human Resources Generalist is a member of the FASS-HR team, and is responsible for providing HR guidance and support for FASS and its customers in a range of areas including, but not limited to, performance management, training and compliance, personnel and pay actions, and student employment. The HR Generalist interprets and applies HR policies and procedures while maintaining alignment of programs and services and meeting the strategic and operational needs of FASS and its supported units. This position exercises a high-level of independence to determine appropriate pathways for HR actions, and collaborates routinely with other FASS staff, university HR, and unit partners.
The Human Resource Generalist will assist in managing the daily functions of FASS HR to ensure processes are handled efficiently and effectively. The incumbent in this position will be expected to respond to a wide variety of HR inquiries and issues, and will research, evaluate, recommend and implement solutions. This position requires a strong team-centered approach to daily activities, ability to juggle and prioritize projects, and the ability to promote and adapt to change.
As a key member of the FASS HR team, the HR Generalist will contribute to the overall goals of the unit, promoting and implementing process improvement, managing projects, and documenting procedures.
They will coordinate efforts to audit and track HR data in support of university HR and Payroll requirements. The HR Generalist provides insight and input to identify training needs, coordinating with campus partners to ensure timely and relevant HR training for FASS-supported units.
The incumbent will support units seeking to create or implement changes to current and proposed position descriptions. This includes analyzing and evaluating positions for alignment with the University’s compensation practices, collective bargaining agreements, regulatory requirements, and internal and external comparators. The position will exercise sound judgement with confidential and/or sensitive information and will provide assistance through a consultative and collaborative approach.
The HR Generalist may supervise one or more student employees performing a variety of HR-related project and process work. The incumbent in this position will cross-train with other FASS-HR team members to provide back-up support during peak times and absences, and may provide recruitment support as needed.
Minimum Requirements
• Three years of office experience which included two years at full performance level and experience generating documents; and
• Lead work responsibility or coordination of office procedures.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working in matters related to appropriate classification and compensation.
• Experience with applying collective bargaining agreements to recruitment and compensation matters.
• Experience using HRIS or a Talent Management System.
• Experience using productivity software such as Microsoft Office.
• Current PHR or SHRM-CP certification.
• Work experience in higher education.
