Accounting Internship - Summer 2025

The Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG) offers a comprehensive internship program designed to engage students, impart valuable skills, and offer insight into a career path in the field of accounting. Highlights include hands on project work, access to mentorship and networking opportunities, and learning and development sessions. During the engagement, you will be in a supportive learning environment contributing both independently and on a team towards key Agency initiatives. If the student wishes to do an Academic Internship for Credit, this can be discussed during the interview process.

 

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented student with a passion to learn Accounting or Finance to join our team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain practical real-world experience and learn about GAAP and financial principles and terms. Under the supervision of our staff, you can expect to participate in the preparation of journal entries and financial reports, analyze actual financial data, and learn more about financial software. You will also learn about Budgeting, Inventory Management, and assist with other accounting activities. You should be a motivated team player who can maintain efficiency and accuracy when multitasking. 

 

To be a strong candidate for an Accounting Internship, you should possess a general understanding of accounting and financial principles and have a positive attitude. You should be collaborative, trustworthy, receptive to feedback, and eager to learn.

 

You will also have the opportunity to:

  • Shadow members of the Accounting department as they perform their duties.
  • Assisting with research, filing, data entry, and recording and maintaining accurate and complete financial records.
  • Build knowledge of business processes, objectives, risk and controls across multiple business units.
  • Preparing financial reports, such as balance sheets and income statements, invoices, and other documents.
  • Handle sensitive or confidential information with honesty and integrity.
  • Learning how to work as part of the Accounting team to compile and analyze data, track information, and support the company or clients.
  • Work with departmental Staff and Managers to plan, develop and execute assigned projects consistent with guidelines established within departmental guidelines. 
  • Identify audit risks, obtain an understanding of processes and test controls by performing substantive procedures.
  • Perform ad hoc requests as prioritized per Accounting and Senior Management. 
  • Prepare and present Presentations for Senior Management, Including, but not limited to, the CFO and Executive Director.

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Candidates must be enrolled in college courses with plans to pursue accounting or finance degrees.
  • Availability to work part time for duration of the Internship program. Hours can be flexible.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office with an Emphasis on Excel, and Adobe Professional

This Internship pays $20.00 per hour.
