Case Aide: Refugee Support Services

Paid Summer Internship

This is an exciting internship opportunity at a growing nonprofit making a real impact on the lives of refugees in Union county. If you’re passionate about supporting recently-arrived immigrant newcomers on their path to self-sufficiency, get in touch! 

Schedule 

Minimum of 12 consecutive weeks. Must be available to start immediately. Potential to continue internship in the fall.

15 hours/week on-site in Elizabeth, NJ. Regular business hours. 

Responsibilities 

  • Provide case management support to each client through direct services, referrals and advocacy
  • Conduct new client intakes to assess needs and develop and implement self-sufficiency action plans during agreed timeframes with client.
  • Conduct outreach to clients to monitor progress, understand challenges and ensure available resources are utilized
  • Connect clients to community resources to help address needs and benefit their daily living
  • Disseminate information about the program to various community groups to ensure adequate client awareness of existing services
  • Document all client interactions in database on a timely manner
  • Maintain and add to an active list of resources in the community
  • Respect and maintain client confidentiality
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Applicants must be rising undergraduate juniors, seniors or recent graduates
  • Applicants must be pursuing a degree in social work, public health, publc policy, or related field.
  • Fluency in English required.
  • Fluency in Spanish required.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently on assigned tasks and a high-degree of comfort working in an external-facing, client support role.
  • Familiarity with NJ social service safety network, as well as supporting agencies and organizations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – oral and written
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • A demonstrated passion for social justice and commitment to working with immigrant communities
  • Strong problem-solving skills and client service orientation, including the ability to be resourceful and creative to address client needs.
  • Self-starter excited to be part of a small, nimble team that values collaboration

Compensation

  • $20/hour
