Registered Nurse / RN - Child and Adolescent Psych

Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) is a vibrant, innovative health system dedicated to providing essential services to all members of the community. CHA recently opened a new inpatient center for youth with acute behavioral health needs. Located in Somerville, the beautiful facility offers care for children 3-12, adolescents 13-17, and children with neuro-developmental disorders. The Center for Inpatient Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at Somerville provides a transformative continuum of patient and family-centered care for diverse youth with mental health needs.

The Adolescent Unit is a secured psychiatric unit that provides care for children between the ages of 12 and 18. The unit is located in Somerville Hospital. This is an acute care unit, working on assessment, stabilization and after care treatment planning. We have a multidisciplinary team focused on teaching self-regulation, de-escalation and restraint reduction. This approach is used to provide patient and family centered care.  

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Current Massachusetts RN license required
  • American Heart Association for Healthcare Providers BLS (Basic Life Support) certification is required
  • BSN or ASN degree required. Please see below for info on our New Grad RN Residency
  • In addition, newly hired candidates are required to successfully complete a job specific physical test

New Grad Residency: 

CHA is pleased to announce the psychiatric nurse residency program Summer cohort for new graduate nurses. This program, which starts on July 29. will provide a coordinated, systematic approach to onboarding, orienting and transitioning new graduate nurses into clinical practice. This program will support the professional role transition, integration, and socialization to enable residents to transition from a beginner nurse to a competent professional nurse providing safe quality care.

As a newly graduated RN in our Nurse Residency Program, you will receive the education and support necessary to develop the judgment, skill and knowledge you will need to become the highest caliber nurse. This invaluable program will enable a clear career path into nursing.

Intensive 16-week psychiatric nurse clinical orientation as well as a 12-month residency classroom program that focuses on the tenets of the CCNE entry-to-practice standards. 

Clinical orientation primarily consists of one-on-one preceptor guidance with the goal of independent performance in the clinical environment while following a curriculum designed specifically for new graduate nurses
