Packaging Engineer Intern

Position Summary

We are looking for a results-oriented and inquisitive Packaging Engineer Intern to support packaging improvement projects across our product lines. In this hands-on role, you'll work on real-world challenges such as developing palletized load configurations, enhancing protective packaging for heavy and irregularly shaped items, and improving packaging sustainability and cost-efficiency.

This internship offers an excellent opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a manufacturing environment while working alongside experienced packaging engineers and operations leaders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing and testing packaging for large, heavy, or irregular-shaped building products (e.g., trim, panels, moldings).
  • Support line trials and transit tests to validate structural integrity and damage resistance of packaging solutions.
  • Help improve packaging methods to reduce breakage, waste, and material cost.
  • Create and maintain packaging specifications, including drawings and bill of materials.
  • Collaborate with plant personnel, quality engineers, logistics teams, and suppliers.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives related to packaging issues.
  • Research and recommend alternative materials to enhance recyclability or meet new regulatory standards.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Completion of junior year preferred.
  • Interest in manufacturing and materials handling.
  • Knowledge of packaging materials (corrugated, foam, stretch wrap, strapping, etc.) and testing methods.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); CAD software experience is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and hands-on mindset.
