We are seeking an experienced hands-on HR Manager to support our Iowa-based manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for leading HR initiatives across multiple site locations, ensuring alignment with business goals while promoting a strong family-owned culture. The ideal candidate is experienced in labor-intensive environments, thrives in a fast-paced setting, and can balance multiple priorities.
Your Role in Our Mission:
- Serve as the primary HR leader for multiple manufacturing sites in Iowa (25 miles apart), while partnering with centralized HR functions, ie payroll, benefits, employee experience, and talent acquisition,
- Partner with plant leadership to develop and execute workforce strategies that support safety, quality, productivity, and retention goals
- Provide guidance and resolution on employee relations issues, investigations, corrective action, and performance management
- Work closely with Talent Acquisition on staffing, onboarding, and workforce planning.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal employment laws, including FMLA, ADA, FLSA, OSHA, Workers Compensation, and EEO regulations
- Coach supervisors and managers on effective leadership, communication, and conflict resolution practices
- Participate in engagement efforts including employee recognition, communications, and internal events
- Support hourly and salaried performance review processes and centralized compensation alignment
- Capable of learning and backing up payroll processing.
- Partner with HR functions on policy development, benefits communications, and talent initiatives
- Partners with safety personnel regarding workplace injuries, return to work programs, and claims management.
- Champion a positive, transparent, and respectful workplace culture
- Lead or support special projects, audits, or process improvement initiatives as needed
To Perform your Job Successfully:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field required; Master’s or HR certification preferred
- Minimum 7 years of progressive HR experience, including 3+ years in a manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of labor laws and HR compliance in the state of Iowa
- Working knowledge of payroll systems, wage/hour compliance, and payroll-related questions
- Working knowledge of timekeeping, PTO tracking, attendance and pay practices
- Demonstrated experience resolving complex employee relations issues
- Exceptional interpersonal, coaching, and influencing skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and experience with HRIS platforms (APS, UKG, etc.)
- Comfortable working onsite in manufacturing facilities and traveling to satellite locations as needed
- Change management and organizational development experience
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement of culture
- Ability to build trust and credibility at all levels of the organization
- Strategic thinker with hands-on execution skills
- Understands and respects the boundaries defined by HR ethics and confidentiality
- Skilled at balancing professionalism with approachability in close-knit or small community settings
