Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory)

The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) is seeking an enthusiastic Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory) to join our talented team that is passionate about reducing waste.

Under general direction of the Environmental Program Manager I, the incumbent supervises the office management, program implementation, public information and outreach functions of the Local Assistance Market Development Branch. Specific duties include: Oversee and respond to requests from recycling coordinators, the public, and other Department units for information and technical assistance. Prepare and deliver presentations at meetings. Monitor and coordinate program implementation activities of section staff. Develop and manage special projects and work plans. Coordinate and collaborate with management to resolve common problems. Participate in meetings and workshops. This position involves travel throughout the state approximately 20% of the time.

This position requires that you possess and maintain a valid California Drivers License (CDL). You must answer the questions addressing your CDL on your applications. Ensure you provide your CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions. Failing to maintain a valid CDL will result in a failure to meet job requirements.

 

This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under Government Code14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are noteligible for telework. Regardless of telework eligibility, all employees will be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location, as indicated on their duty statement, at their own expense. Currently this position must be in the field or office a minumum of 2 days a week or more if the duties require.  Effective 7/1/2025, this position must be in the field or office a minimum of 4 days a week.
