Sports Operations Intern

SPORTS OPERATIONS INTERNSHIP

The National Senior Games is an Olympic-style multi-sport event that brings together 11,000+ participants ages 50+ to compete in more than 20 sports. The 2025 National Senior Games presented by Humana is July 24 through August 4, 2025, in Des Moines, Iowa. 

About Us: The National Senior Games Association (NSGA) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting the benefits of competitive sports, physical fitness, and active aging to adults ages 50+. The NSGA hosts the biennial National Senior Games and is the umbrella organization for State Senior Games throughout the United States and Canada. Athletes must qualify at a State Senior Games in the year before the National Senior Games to participate in most events. This world-class competition celebrates the athletic accomplishments of older adults and inspires people of all ages to be active. The NSGA has held 19 summer national championships to date.

Positions: NSGA is seeking 20+ interns for the Summer 2025 Season (June/July - August 2025), with an in-person requirement from July 21 - August 5, 2025 in Des Moines, Iowa. Applicants are required to complete an application and upload their resume. Please read the below for descriptions of the internship requirements, responsibilities, and an ideal candidate profile. Those not residing in/near Des Moines, IA, are responsible for their own travel to/from Des Moines. National Senior Games covers accommodations during the event.

  • Sport Operations Interns: The 2025 National Senior Games is seeking students or recent graduates interested in learning about event operations, sports operations and more, to apply for the Sport Operations Intern positions.
    • Candidate Basics - The candidate is someone who understands the spirit of collaboration and cooperation. This person has mastered attention to detail, critical thinking, organization, personal responsibility, professionalism, and time management. The candidate should have experience with active problem-solving in a fast-paced environment. A member of this team is a strong communicator, has a positive attitude, is a team player, and has a strong sense of ethics and moral responsibility.
    • Requirements - The candidate must have a desire to work in sports, special events, operations or a similar field. Basic computer skills with the Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the Google Suite are a must. You must also be willing to stand or work on your feet inside/outside during a variety of different weather conditions for long periods of time. Operations interns must be able to lift or move up to 30 lbs.
    • Responsibilities - Daily activities include but are not limited to: setting up and breaking down sports facilities, overall venue management and oversight, sport-specific operations, transporting equipment, and other operational duties in the management of signage, hospitality, transportation, volunteers, awards and more.
    • Paid or Credit - All candidates selected receive a stipend. Students interested in receiving college credit check the box on the application and must submit the paperwork from their colleges at the start of their internship.
