Swell Community Journalism Intern

Swell is an audio-based platform for thoughtful conversations, community storytelling, and meaningful engagement. We are currently seeking journalism students who are curious, articulate, and passionate about amplifying voices that matter.

About the Role
As a Journalism Intern at Swell, you'll play a key role in building conversations that resonate. While you'll help support ongoing communities within the app—creating prompts and responding to users—your primary focus will be on outreach. You’ll identify, research, and connect with thought leaders, changemakers, and storytellers to host them for interviews and Q&A sessions on Swell.

This is an opportunity to practice sourcing, pitching, and shaping stories in a way that blends traditional journalistic skills with emerging digital media formats.

What You’ll Do

• Conduct outreach to potential guest speakers, experts, and community leaders
• Assist in coordinating and producing Q&A sessions or interviews hosted on Swell
• Craft thoughtful, relevant prompts to engage users across various Swell communities
• Respond to community conversations to encourage continued participation and discovery
• Collaborate with the Swell team to identify timely or trending topics worth spotlighting

Who You Are

• Currently pursuing a degree in Journalism or Media Studies
• We’re looking for interns with an active presence on at least one social platform who regularly speak up about causes they care about and aren’t afraid to share their opinions publicly.
• A strong communicator—clear, personable, and professional
• Comfortable with outreach and building relationships with people across disciplines
• Genuinely interested in public discourse, storytelling, and social impact
• Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage time across multiple projects
