Cottonseed QC Technician

Pay: $20 - $21.50/hr on w2

Responsibilities:

  • The Cottonseed QC Technician is responsible for assisting the Quality Control Lab Supervisor to complete any necessary activities to test fuzzy cottonseed, processed, and carryover cottonseed for quality standards.
  • Key emphasis will be placed on performing tests which may include but not limited to: Truck Sampling, Moisture, Temperature, Free Fatty Acid, Genetic Purity, Visual Mechanical Damage, Adventitious Presence, Seed Count, pH, Seed Appearance, Data Verification and Data Entry.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to perform repetitive tests for extended time periods following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Work Instructions (WI).
  • Ability to work near/with other workers on a daily basis.
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean work area and lab.
  • Follow safe work practices.
  • Testing workstations require standing, climbing up and down stairs, bending, reaching, repetitive movements. Contact with industrial equipment such as hydraulic presses, vacuum samplers, autoclaves, seed dryers, shakers, cotton seed de-linting sink, magnification devices, ovens, dishwashers, blenders/blades, moisture/temp meters, seed counters, centrifuges, and pipettes.
  • Labware consists of glass beakers, test tubes, micro-centrifuge tubes, petri dishes, pipette tips, and well plates.
  • Safe handling of lab chemicals such as buffers, acid, oil, alcohol, seed treatments, and cleaning solvents.
  • Assist in any other duties designated by QC Supervisor.
  • Individuals will work primarily in an indoor lab environment, outdoor Truck Probing station, outdoor warehouse bay sampling, outdoor/indoor Plant setting.
  • PPE (safety glasses, lab coat, gloves, safety boots, and hardhat) is required and provided.
  • Cross training in the Plant Quality Assurance Lab if applicable. Must be comfortable working in both lab and plant setting.
  • Must be flexible to work extended hours during peak season (November-December). Saturday work as needed.
  • Background in biology, lab experience, or agriculture experience preferred.

 

Comments/Special Instructions

  • This job order will have staggered start dates, approximately 2 to 3 per month.
  • Candidates must possess lab and/or quality experience.
  • Agriculture will be a plus. Background in biology, chemistry, quality control or quality assurance preferred.
  • High School diploma required, any college will be a plus.
    • Potential for extension depending on performance.
