We're looking to recruit a community member to serve with the Texas A&M Forest Service as a Community Wildfire Protection Liaison. This role will be hired through the WT Community Resilience Corps, but placed with TFS for the duration of the internship, working under the supervision of the Childress Fire District's Interim Fire Coordinator.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) for Hemphill Co.
  • Engage with community leaders in Hemphill Co. and City of Canadian to increase awareness of defensible space and fuel mitigation to protect against wildfires.
  • Travel to see the implementation of policies and plans and understand fuel mitigation best practices, by exploring what is working in other parts of the state.
  • Create a communications plan to keep all stakeholders informed and working together on CWPP.
  • Include neighboring counties (Wheeler) in stakeholder mapping and communications planning, as directed by supervisor.
  • Understand state network of Texas A&M Forest service and resource management agencies and how they work together to support communities, particularly communities in the Panhandle.
