
Battery Lab Technician
Lightergy is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Advanced Material Battery Lab Technician to join our team. In this role, you will support product development by setting up and performing tests, assisting with the assembly of prototype units, and conducting thorough technical analysis of products. You will be working in a dynamic and collaborative environment, contributing to the development of cutting-edge electrical-based products.
What you will do:
Under the supervision of lead engineers, perform hands on technical duties in laboratory, manufacturing, and installation environments, including setting up laboratory equipment, writing test plans, preparing test material, conducting lab-based experiments, recording and analyzing data, and writing test reports.
Prepare cell components before assembly; condition, mark, and inspect components and subassemblies. Assemble/build cell products and sort for test analysis.
Develop and implement testing plans for evaluating battery cell performance including capacity, cycle life, charge/discharge rates, and thermal stability. Analyze test data using statistical and data analysis software.
Perform cell teardowns and conduct failure mode analysis and root cause analysis using various characterization tools
Set up and maintain laboratory equipment such as glove boxes, vacuum pumps, Z-folding Jigs, battery cyclers, Potentiostat / Galvanostat equipment and other laboratory equipment
Develop and integrate software tools/scripts to automate and control test environments (e.g., using MATLAB, Python or LabVIEW)
Evaluate future battery cell technologies to support down selection and targeted stationary applications through tests and modeling
Practice safe work habits, including complying with company safety policies, OSHA and environmental regulations
Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:
Pursuing Bachelor Degree in Engineering (Chemical or Mechanical), Materials Science, Applied Physics, Electrochemistry.
Experience in battery cell-level performance and life cycle characterization methods and associated dedicated test equipment. Hands-on experience and expertise in cell tear down, battery failure analysis, performance testing, safety testing and material characterization
Experience in development of advanced battery cell technologies in the following battery categories: solid state electrolytes, advanced high energy cathodes/anodes, fast charging, battery safety and pilot manufacturing line design.
Experience in battery testing software, CAD and CAE software, cell performance modeling tools, programming languages, and/or control and automation software
Physical Demands:
Regular activities include careful handling and manipulating of objects
Frequent standing, walking, and reaching with hands and arms. Lifting or moving up to 30 pounds.
Constant use of close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception
Ability to work in a space constrained area such as a glove box and environmentally controlled area such as a dry room for a limited time
