Technical Writer/Documentation Specialist (Entry-Level)

Full Job Summary:

The entry-level Technical Writer/Documentation Specialist will work with the ARCS Aviation software developers and business analysts to create software documentation, abstracts, background summaries, findings reports, etc. that reflects the software or system for the end-users. The software documentation created includes both user-facing documentation, such as technical manuals and tutorials, and internal developer documentation including code diagrams and API references.

The technical writer should have a strong understanding of the products they are documenting to explain complex concepts in simple language and often play a role in editing and proofreading documentation that other technical writers have created.

Occasionally, the entry-level technical writer conducts user testing, to ensure that documentation is suitable for the end-user. The technical writer’s goal is to produce high-quality documentation that meets the needs of its intended audience.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepare instruction manuals & documentation 
  • Disseminate technical information in easy-to-understand language for a non-technical audience
  • Have technical accuracy in writing user documentation
  • Create software documentation after a thorough collaboration with subject matter experts and technical staff
  • Help other writers in creating documentation
  • Ability to take existing and potential content and improve it
  • Convert complex documentation to easy language for multiple audiences
  • Create product manuals with screenshots and tutorials
  • Write documentation for internal teams such as developers and programmers
  • Communicate complex ideas in a concise manner
  • Ability to write professional essays including abstracts, background summaries, findings summaries, etc
  • Additional duties as may be assigned as necessary 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Psychology, Communications, Information Technology, or other related disciplines
  • Recent College graduate with interest in technical writing 
  • Understand and explain complex technical concepts
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Ability to undertake multiple projects and deliver on tight deadlines
  • Excellent technical writing skills
  • Public Speaking and excellent verbal communication skills
  • Solid grip on documentation publishing software such as Zendesk Guide, Camtasia, SnagIt, and other software
  • Knowledge of MS Office or Google Docs
  • Detail-oriented

Travel

  • This position may require travel to come to our office (located in Cookeville, TN), to our customers, or conferences and trade shows.

We frequently work in remote, small teams to solve problems, explore new technologies, conduct research & development (R&D), and learn from each other. Most of our projects are in partnership with the Department of Defense (DoD) and various commercial clients. ARCS Aviation specializes in designing applications and utilizing other trending, exciting technologies to help reduce overall downtime and advance the end-user's operations and sustainment to increase overall mission readiness.
