
Public Policy Manager
Manages regulatory affairs and policy implementation efforts to encourage engagement among KFB members and leaders.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitors regulatory and legislative issues of importance to KFB members through coordination with KFB leadership, advocacy team staff, contract lobbyists and members.
- Writes, coordinates, and distributes comments and other regular communications to ensure that KFB policy is implemented and known among agencies, legislators, regulators, and members.
- Advances local, state, regional, and national priority issues and other concerns of our membership and KFB leadership.
- Promotes, encourages and enhances member engagement and issue knowledge through Action Alerts, white-papers, town hall meetings, farm tours, and other opportunities.
- Manages tours and events to highlight relevant topics and issues to decision makers and association members.
- Assists with the planning and execution of advocacy events, including trips to Washington, DC, and events/tours throughout Kansas Farm Bureau’s State Districts.
- Delivers various forms of communications throughout the organization and assists with providing opportunities for the education and engagement of members.
- Supports the mission and strategic objectives of the organization through participation in other Agricultural Industry, American Farm Bureau, state and regional organizations, or community service activities.
- Assists with the development and lobby engagement of the organization’s advocacy policy and implementation of new advancements.
- Cooperates in staffing Resolutions Committee, Ag Advisory Committees and other committees.
- Serves as a member or staff of committees and organizations, as requested by KFB leadership or peers.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher and a minimum of 3 years of experience.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Must be able to maintain a current, up-to-date command of legislative and regulatory changes and their effects on our organization.
- Must possess excellent organizational skills and demonstrate a proven ability to meet deadlines.
Authority
- Makes recommendations to the Senior Director of Public Policy.
- Recommends and follows through with the implementation of advocacy strategies, research, programs and campaigns.
- Operates within an annual Advocacy Division budget, may provide input.
Relationships
- Serves as a liaison between contractors, organizers, management and grassroots members with regards to all facets of programs and events.
- Works with KFB President, organizational leadership, contract lobbyists, Field Services Managers, and staff to advance KFB priorities.
- Has frequent contact with elected officials, regulatory personnel, Kansas Farm Bureau’s membership, outside agricultural organizations, and government officials.
