Clinician II - Emergency Services

The Clinician II serves as a Clinician in Emergency Services, a 24-hour mandated service providing triage, crisis intervention, risk assessment, and pre-admission screening evaluations to individuals located in the city of Chesapeake.
Typical tasks include:
· Advocates for individuals requiring inpatient treatment, crisis stabilization or DETOX services.
· Consults with magistrate regarding obtaining TDOs and ECOs to promote safety of individuals and the community.
· Maintains documentation in EMR in compliance with agency quality assurance standards.
· Utilizes DSM-V to diagnose mental health, substance abuse, developmental and other disorders
· Requires experience in crisis intervention and diagnosis in DSM-V; clinical experience with populations including serious mental illness, substance abuse and co-occurring disorders
The Emergency Services Clinician II should possess the ability to relate and communicate with various populations, make commitment-related decisions, analyze psycho-social data, and communicate ideas verbally and in writing. The clinician must possess knowledge of state statutes, pre-admission screening criteria and the commitment process.

VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, closely related field, or another degree as approved by the Virginia Department of Health Professions.
A master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Rehabilitation is required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
- In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this position requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.
- Require Qualified Mental Health Professional – QMHP.
- Pre-Screening Certification within 6 weeks of hire.
- Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
