Construction Inspector II

  • Reviews plans and progress of approved water, sewer, street, sidewalk, curb, gutter, and related subdivision and commercial construction projects.
  • Provides an advanced inspection and testing of the construction of various types of projects or facilities for specification compliance.
  • Coordinates with construction contractors, developers, and engineers to accomplish goals, communicate information, and make recommendations for any changes and/or improvements.
  • Prepares and maintains reports and records such as permits, inspection records, and/or violation reports.
  • Responds to inquiries and concerns from the general public or City personnel.
  • Participates in investigating and resolving minor engineering problems and investigating problems with construction projects.
  • Attends staff meetings to exchange information; attends in-service training and classes, seminars, or conferences to improve professional skills.

VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standard, this position requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards; may require additional certifications. Depending on position, State and/or City certification(s) may be required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
