RCIT Field Support Intern

Riverside County Information Technology (RCIT) Department

The Riverside County Information Technology (RCIT) Department delivers essential IT services to County departments and agencies, playing a critical role in managing and securing the County’s enterprise systems and mission-critical infrastructure.

RCIT is currently seeking a motivated and tech-savvy student intern to join our CIM Field Support team!

About the Role:
As a member of the CIM Field Support team, you’ll gain hands-on experience with the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of a wide range of systems, including:

County telephone and data networks

Backup power systems

Audio-visual and paging systems

Approximately 95% of the work is performed in the field, providing support directly at customer locations throughout the County. This is an excellent opportunity to explore the inner workings of a large-scale enterprise IT environment and develop practical skills in a cross-functional setting.

Our core technologies include the Cisco and Microsoft product suites, with access to a broad range of tools within those ecosystems.

Internship Details:

Location: Based in Riverside, CA

Duration: 1-year internship

Schedule: 20–40 hours per week (flexible to accommodate academic schedules)

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Under supervision, assists and participates in the work performed by employees of a specific profession; through participation, receives supervised work experience in a specific professional vocation; and performs other related duties as required.

Some of the tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Installing routers, switches, wireless access points (WAP), uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems
  • Providing field support working alongside of the NCC over the phone to troubleshoot routers, switches, Wi-Fi, network connectivity
  • Installing new VoIP phones
  • Troubleshooting VoIP phones, UPS power systems, faxes, analog phone lines
  • Patching network jacks
  • Cross-connecting data and voice analog and digital circuits
  • Preventive maintenance 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average: 2.5 GPA required. Proof of most current unofficial/official transcript with cumulative GPA must be provided at time of application

Education: Applicants must be currently enrolled/attending school at an accredited college or university in a Bachelor's degree program, during the entire duration of the internship. Recent college graduates are eligible to intern for up to one year (twelve months) from their graduation date. Graduation date is not to exceed a twelve month maximum during the duration of the internship. 

Areas of StudyInformation Technology, Computer Science, or similar

Minimum Qualifications: 

This position will require the intern to be able to perform the activities listed below on a daily basis.

  • Drive a County vehicle (Driver's License is required)
  • Squat, crawl, climb ladders, kneel
  • Reach above shoulder level
  • Handle objects (manual dexterity)
  • Do pushing/pulling
  • Use fine finger movement
  • Sit/stand/walk for long durations
  • Lift 50lbs
