Sustainability Intern at Christ Hospital
The Southwest Ohio Pollution Prevention (P2) Internship Program is a summer internship program that pairs student interns with companies in Hamilton, Butler, and Clermont counties seeking new and innovative approaches to environmental efficiency and conservation. Currently, we are seeking intern applicants for our 2025 host company in Hamilton County, The Christ Hospital.
About The Christ Hospital (TCH): The Christ Hospital is a 555-bed, not-for-profit acute care facility in Cincinnati, Ohio, offering services in cardiovascular care, spine treatment, women's health, major surgery, cancer, behavioral medicine, orthopedics, emergency care, kidney transplant and others.
Intern Responsibilities:
The intern will be given responsibilities that assist his/her/their learning and experience in implementing pollution prevention and sustainability initiatives including:
- Attend a one-day pollution prevention training, prior to the start of site-specific project work
Areas of Focus & Projects:
- Develop sustainability programs at TCH
- Identify waste reduction areas and work to advance current programs
- Advance sustainability programs, making it common practice in the work of employees
- Identify and apply to grant opportunities
- Evaluate and present new pollution prevention recommendations
Expected Outcomes:
- Waste diversion from hospital practices
- Improved sustainability dashboard and data
- Advancement of current programs
- Develop new pollution prevention programs
Qualifications:
- Must be an undergraduate or graduate student with at least two years of undergraduate education completed
- Desired majors include: Environmental Science and Studies Majors, Environmental Health and Safety Majors, Environmental Engineering Majors
- Must have valid driver’s license issued
- Must complete a background check and show vaccination history
- Commit to working for 12 weeks from May until August (this is a quick turnaround with a start date to be during the week of May 27th or June 2nd with a required training on May 28th)
- Provide own housing and transportation

- Project management experience
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to understand, categorize, and use data
- Ability to utilize computer technology to conduct research, prepare reports, access data, and maintain records
Compensation and Hours:
- $17/hr, depending on experience
- 40 hrs/week
- Hybrid work schedule with on-site work at the Christ Hospital (2139 Auburn Ave. Cincinnati, OH 45219), laptop provided
