PFAS Product Testing Specialist Job ID 86045

Job Summary

 

This position exists to support the work of the Toxic Reduction program with developing and implementing product and packaging testing projects which are designed to identify per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in products.  The position also supports and coordinates with the overall product testing program.  The position is needed to help determine methodology and standard operating procedures, provide technical expertise, conduct sampling, analysis and testing, and plan for quality assurance of projects. The position also works with the team lead to communicate with regulated parties, laboratories, and other outside entities.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in an Environmental Science, Toxicology or Public Health, Statistics, Chemistry, natural sciences, data science or other related degree with a broad knowledge of environmental sciences AND two (2) years of demonstrated experience conducting lab analysis, data analysis, data quality review, and the use of science tools, and developing procedures and quality assurance plans. 

Technical writing skills sufficient to organize and effectively present ideas to a variety of audiences.

Human relation and communication skills sufficient to collaborate, work effectively, and create understanding within a wide range of clientele, partners, and interested parties.

Accomplished planning and organizational skills to meet priorities, goals and objectives, monitor work, and follow-up on implementation.

Willingness and ability to learn new data analysis tools, skills, and software.

Possess a valid Driver's license (see additional requirements).

Preferred Qualifications

Understanding of PFAS and knowledge of state and federal environmental laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to PFAS.

Experience with screening and analytical chemistry techniques, equipment and procedures, recommending and selecting for research, screening, and testing methods, detection limits, assessing quality assurance, and reporting findings that meet data quality objectives.

Experience with environmental science, green chemistry, toxicology and/or public health.

A clear understanding of QAPPS (Quality Assurance Project Plans), SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), SAPs (Sampling and Analysis Plans), DQP’s (Data Quality Procedures) as well as chain of custody procedures to ensure data submittals meet proper quality assurance approaches and procedures.

Experience performing and communicating qualitative analysis, quantitative analysis, and/or statistical analysis to support decision making. 

Experience performing analyses with tools such as Tableau, SQL, Excel, Python, R, ArcGIS or other statistical or data analysis software. 

Demonstrated project management, budget management and leadership skills. 

Ability to conduct advanced data analyses to include manipulating large datasets with a wide variety of approaches and tools, and leverage opportunities for improvement.

 

Physical Requirements

Requires occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as file folders, ledgers, and small equipment. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.

Additional Requirements

A driver’s license is an essential function of this position. This requires possession of an unrestricted Class D Driver’s License. The job offer is contingent on confirmation of a valid driver’s license AND a satisfactory DLR check.

Requires a Class D driver´s License: a single unit vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of less than 26,000 pounds. This is a basic driver’s license. Operators may also tow vehicles/trailers as long as the gross combination weight does not exceed 26,000 pounds.
